HBCU News: Deion Sanders Gets High Phrase, Robinson Award

Since Putting Deion Sanders at the Helm of the Jackson State University Tigers’ football program in 2019, JSU has Launched its own moneymaking Sports broadcast Network, gone undefeated in conference (SWAC) play this season, played in the SWAC football championship game for the fifth time in school history and first time since 2013, played in the Celebration Bowl (representing the SWAC), for the first time in school history, and for the first time in school history signed the nation’s top football recruit, cornerback Travis Hunter.


For all of those accolades and others, Tuesday, December 21, sanders was named the 2021 recipient of the Stats Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Award, which is presented to the national coach of the year in the NCAA Division I subdivision. The award, celebrating its 35th anniversary season is named in honor of the late legendary Grambling State head football coach Eddie Robinson, and it will be given to Sanders at the FCS National Awards Banquet, Friday, January 7 in Frisco, TX.
