Parents and caregivers will have an opportunity this fall to gain practical tools and resources designed to help their children succeed academically and personally through a new Parent Academy at the Carver Community Center.
The Parent Academy will be held Mondays from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Sept. 14 through Nov. 2, at the Carver Community Center, 600 North Orchard Knob Avenue.
The free educational initiative is designed to empower parents and caregivers to become active partners in their children’s education. Through workshops, discussions and hands-on resources, participants will learn strategies they can use at home while gaining a better understanding of community resources available to families.
Topics will include supporting children’s learning at home, budgeting basics, homeownership, and accessing community resources and services.
Childcare will be provided, and transportation will be available upon request, making the program accessible to families who might otherwise face barriers to participation.
Parent Academies generally serve as a resource hub for adults rather than a traditional school for children. Programs often address academic support, communication with teachers and schools, understanding report cards and assessments, special education and individualized education programs, social-emotional wellness, early childhood development, digital literacy and parent leadership.
The Carver program also comes at a time when Hamilton County Schools and community organizations continue working to address literacy challenges and disparities among students.
For parents, the academy can provide concrete strategies for reinforcing reading, writing and mathematics skills at home. By helping parents understand and use approaches that complement classroom instruction, the home can become an extension of the learning environment.
Beyond academics, sessions focused on budgeting and homeownership can help families strengthen their financial knowledge and work toward long-term stability. Information about community services can also help parents connect their families with resources that may otherwise be difficult to find.
