Members of the Chattanooga community will gather at Walker Pavilion in Coolidge Park during the Mayor’s Council on Disability’s “Access for All” celebration, commemorating the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The free, family-friendly event features disability resources, accessible activities, local vendors, and advocacy organizations while promoting inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities.

The Mayor’s Council on Disability is inviting the community to celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) during its free, family-friendly “Access for All” event on Friday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Walker Pavilion in Coolidge Park, 150 River St.

The celebration will feature food and refreshments, disability resources, accessible activities, interactive displays, information booths, and local vendors highlighting services and programs available to individuals with disabilities throughout the Chattanooga area.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to connect with advocacy organizations while enjoying one of the city’s premier riverfront parks.

Held in advance of the ADA’s official anniversary on July 26, the event will commemorate the landmark civil rights law signed by President George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1990. The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities and guarantees equal opportunity in employment, government services, public accommodations, telecommunications, and other areas of public life.

Organizers say the celebration is designed to recognize the progress made over the past 36 years while promoting greater accessibility, inclusion, and awareness throughout the community.

“We’re excited to bring the community together to recognize this important milestone,” the Mayor’s Council on Disability said in a statement. “This event is about celebrating achievements, raising awareness, and reinforcing our commitment to ensuring access for all.”

The public is encouraged to attend the free event and learn more about the resources, services, and organizations working to make Chattanooga a more accessible and inclusive community.
