CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — State House Representative Yusuf Hakeem has officially endorsed Democratic candidate Nathaniel Doss III for Tennessee congressional district three.

Citing Doss’s experience in the U.S. Marine Corps, Rep. Hakeem said the congressional hopeful is the best-equipped candidate to tackle Tennessee’s current challenges, such as its outdated infrastructure and deepening political divide.

“His military service is evidence of his commitment to American democracy,” Rep. Hakeem said. “I see him as a man of integrity with a desire to continue to serve the citizens of this district and America.”

According to Doss’s website, he intends to bridge the divide in Tennessee by focusing on rural citizens who have often felt left out of the political conversation. His platform highlights the need for higher quality internet with greater accessibility, an increase in funding for farmers, and significant investment into veteran affairs.

“I decided to run for Congress because I took an oath in the Marines to serve and protect the Constitution which governs this great country,” Doss said. “I am ready to uphold this oath once more as your congressman in D.C.”

Doss is running against Republican incumbent Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, whose seat is up for reelection during the next congressional midterm on November 8th, 2022. Doss is the only Democrat who has officially announced their candidacy for congressional district three.

Rep. Hakeem, who is elected to Tennessee’s 28th house district, conducted a joint press conference with Doss at the Ed Johnson Memorial on the Walnut Street Bridge on last Friday, June 18, 2021.
