(Chattanooga, TN) The National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW), Chattanooga Chapter, Inc. hosted one of its’ signature programs and events, the Black Pioneer Women of Excellence Award Ceremony on Saturday, April 24th virtually via Facebook Live. This award program recognizes unsung local African American women who charted the course for women, particularly during an era when doors were not open to women of color.

“This is a milestone year for this program, marking 20 years of this recognition which highlights outstanding African American women and their contributions to our local community”, stated Vanessa Jackson, NCBW’s Community Involvement Committee Chair. “African American women serve as valiantly pillars of strength, intelligence, resourcefulness and leadership within their homes, places of worship and the community at large, and many of them serve without ever receiving due recognition and accolades. That is why NCBW, Chattanooga Chapter created this recognition because it provides a way to honor these women for their unselfish and consistent service within their respective endeavors “, said Ms. Jackson.

To date, over seventy women have received this recognition. This year’s inductees are Frankie Bass who was recognized for her achievements in Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, Dr. Lonita Davidson who was recognized for her achievements in Education, Ruthie Hereford who was recognized for her achievements in Education, Willie McClendon who was recognized for her achievements in Community Service, Mildred Taylor who was recognized for her achievements in Social Services, and Dr. Edna Varner who was recognized for her achievements in Education.
