The Bessie Smith Cultural Center announces the second annual Bessie Smith Legacy Gala, presented by Coca-Cola, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at The Westin Chattanooga.
“This signature event will be an evening of elegance, featuring fine dining and inspiring award presentations honoring six recipients whose leadership, dedication and service have enhanced and positively impacted the quality of life in Chattanooga,” organizers said.
“The Bessie Smith Legacy Gala allows us to celebrate those who have made lasting contributions to our city while carrying forward the spirit of Bessie Smith and the mission of our organization,” said Paula Wilkes, president of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.
“We are honored to recognize these outstanding leaders and community changemakers.”
The 2025 Bessie Smith Legacy Gala Honorees include:
• Mr. James Brewer, Sr.; • Judge Curtis Collier; • Mr. Ronald Harris; • Mr. Johnny Holloway;
• Mr. Rayburn Traughber; • The Howard School Class of 1960 Sit-In Activists
“Through their vision, courage and commitment, each honoree has made an enduring mark on Chattanooga’s history and future, reflecting the very essence of the Bessie Smith Legacy Gala,” organizers said.
